Palm has just announced its Palm Pixie handset officially.Comes in a Centro-like design, Palm Pixie sport a 2.63-inch capacitive display with a 320 x 400 pixel resolution as well as a full QWERTY keyboard. a 2MP camera and 8GB onboard storage also packed to the Pixie.Of course you can expect Pixie to runs on WebOS. For connectivity, there’s only EVDO Rev.A support available. Palm Pixie will be available yhis holiday season at Sprint while about its price, Engadget expect it to be less than $99. We are still waiting for the Palm Pre to be released in the UK, Palm is launching another new smartphone that will run Palms webOS, the Palm Pixie.
Unlike the Pre, the Palm Pixie is a candy bar phone, with a built in keyboard on the front, it will share a lot of the features of the Palm Pre, and features a smaller display, measuring 2.63 inches with a resolution of 320 x 400. Other features of the Palm Pixie include a 2 megapixel camera, as opposed to the 3 megapixel camera in the Pre, it features an accelerometer and GPS but one thing it doesn’t have is WiFi, this was probably left out to keep the cost down. There are no details on the retail price of the Palm Pixie as yet, but it is expected to be cheaper than the Pre which has recently had a price drop from $299 to $249.The guys over at Gizmodo have managed to get their hands on one of the new Palm Pixie’s, head on over and check out their hands on review, with lots more cool photos.
Going by reports, Palm is all set to announce its second WebOS based device later this week. The device in question is none other than the Palm Pixie, also known as the EOS, when we had first heard about its existence earlier this year. The Pixie will be announced at the forthcoming New York Fashion Week for reasons best known to Palm. The Pixie will be the affordable cousin to the Palm Pre and will be priced at a much lower rate as compared with the Pre. In the months prior to the announcement of the Pixie, Palm has never acknowledged the existence of the Pixie officially and maybe, we will see that acknowledge later this week. The probable announcement of the Pixie comes at a peculiar timing if you notice. Like the Pre, which was launched just days before the iPhone 3GS was announced, this time too there is an impending Apple event when we hear of yet another Palm launch.
