Adrenaline MMA

Just like Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski last week, Tim “The Maniac” Sylvia lost his first fight since losing to Fedor Emelianeko. And like Arlovski, Sylvia lost his figThe only difference is 12 seconds. Whereas Arlovski lost to Brett Rogers in 22 seconds, Sylvia was knocked out by Ray Mercer in ten seconds. The fight was part of the Adrenaline MMA III: Bragging Rights event on Saturday, June 13 in Birmingham, Alabama.ht in a matter of seconds.
Mercer is a former WBO World Heavyweight Champion in boxing and won an Olympic Gold Medal in 1988. He continues to box, though he hasn’t quite been the same since 1997 when he had to take time off due to contracting hepatitis B. He previous tried his hand at mixed martial arts previous in June 23, 2007, losing to Kimbo Slice at the Cage Fury Fighting Championship 5 event. Because the match was a sanctioned exhibition fight, it did not result in Mercer having an official MMA record. Therefore, his bout with Sylvia is considered his first ofifical MMA fight.
According to Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online, Sylvia threw a kick that Mercer immediately countered with a right hand that knocked him out. It is unknown if Sylvia being knocked out will have an affect on his up-coming fight with Paul Buentello on August 1 in Anaheim, California for the Affliction: Trilogy event. Getting knocked out by Rogers in his fight back in June 6 resulted in Arlovski being on medical suspencion by the California State Athletic Commission, thereby postponing his scheduled professional boxing debut on June 27. Of course, there was a shorter period between fights for Arlovski than there is for Sylvia.
