Snake Kills Baby

In a horrible incident, a snake has killed a 2 year old baby girl by strangling her and biting on her head. The snake was 2-foot long pet Burmese python. It was apparently a pet in the house. Its not clear why a Python was kept as a pet and that too when there was a little girl around. Horrifying and tragic to say the least. The Burmese Python is the largest subspecies of the Indian Python and one of the 6 largest snakes in the world, native to rain forest areas of Southeast Asia. They are often found near water and are sometimes semi-aquatic, but can also be found in trees.
The Burmese python is one of the largest snakes, on average growing up to 5.5 metres (18 ft) and weighing up to 71 kilograms (160 lb). Burmese Pythons are often sold as pets, and are made popular by their attractive colour and apparently easy-going nature. While this species has a reputation for docility, they are very powerful animals, capable of inflicting severe bites or even killing a keeper by constriction.
A two-year old baby has been strangled to death in Florida, killed by a snake that got loose from its owner’s cage. This story is very harrowing and you can read about the account where the snake kills baby here on Tamba Bay’s site.. While Florida has a law about how snakes are supposed to be stored, that is to say under lock and key, I’d like to motion that there are some animales that just don’t belong as pets or even IN THE UNITED STATES. Even if they can be held in a home responsibly, they are a true non-native species that many people are just dumping into the wild. In Florida, without a true winter or predators for these snakes, that’s a nightmare.
