Thunder Hole in the northeastern US state of Maine when a rouge wave swept a group of them into the ocean in which a seven year old girl was killed, said by a spokesman of the Coast Guard. The identity of that seven year old girl could not be verified yet and still unclear. There were other 20 tourists with that girl to sightseeing the ocean from a very well known point called Thunder Hole when a rascal huge wave struck them, said by the Coast Guard spokesman. She was recovered but according to the reports of the hospital the girl was dead upon arriving here. James Rhodes, Petty Officer of the hospital said that nine other people have been transported to the hospital after this incident occurred at the Thunder Hold in Maine and some of them have back injuries and broken bones. Initially there was a report of three people missing but later on while counted again, all were present.
There were thousands of people lining up at the famous sightseeing point in Maine called Thunder Hole. They gathered there to see unusually big waves that crash against the cliff and then suddenly a huge rouge wave swept some of them into the Ocean, resulting in the death of a seven year old girl and nine people got major and minor injuries, said by the Sheridan Steele, superintendent of the park. Extremely rough surf prompted the issuance of red flag warnings for North Carolina beaches Saturday 8 / 22 and Sunday 8 / 23. Elsewhere, waves from offshore Hurricane Bill claimed lives and injuries and caused spotty flooding up and down the East Coast. In Acadia National Park, near Bar Harbor, a massive wave swept several wave watchers off a grouping of rocks at Thunder Hole. As of this post, the Coast Guard was said to have rescued as many as six people, but three additional people were still believed to be in the water.
Ocean water inundated portions of Codfish Park on the southeastern portion of Nantucket Island. Coastal floodwaters surrounded three homes on Massachusetts Avenue (Madaket Section). One of the homes was inhabited and had 2.5 feet of water surrounding it, according to the National Weather Service Boston, MA. Coastal flooding occurred in the Washington County communities of Charlestown and Narragansett. In Charlestown, waters completely covered the beach and encroached upon a few residential driveways on Charlestown Beach Road. In Narragansett, ocean water rose to the dunes and heavy beach erosion was occurring on Galilee Beach, according to the National Weather Service Boston, MA. The National Weather Service Melbourne, FL reports a 54-year-old man drowned while body surfing in New Smyrna Beach, Volusia County. Officials suspect a rip current contributed to his death. In nearby Brevard County, another man nearly drowned while bodyboarding near the Ocean Front Paradise Motel in Indiatlantic. The bodyboarder was unconcious when beachgoers rescued him from the surf. Brevard County Fire-Rescue completed the rescue.
