Kandi Burruss has been informed that her ex-fiance A.J. Jewell was killed during a brawl at the Atlanta strip club Body Tap at 1271 Marietta Boulevard yesterday. Jewell, the father of six children, was taken to Piedmont Hospital where he was pronounced dead of massive head injuries on Friday, October 2, 2009. Kandi’s publicist Lisa Nelson reported that her client is “stunned and speechless” after learning of the brutal death. She indicates that the family is asking for privacy during this very difficult time. The 33 year old singer, songwriter and businesswoman began dating Ashley A.J. Jewell of Atlanta in early 2009 and the couple became engaged to be married. In August, Burruss and Jewell called off the engagement and later ended their romantic relationship completely, though Jewell was quoted as saying they remained “good friends”. Though he moved out of Burruss’ home, she is the legal guardian of his 12-year-old twin daughters who remain in her care.
Atlanta Police Lt. Keith Meadows said, “It appears he was involved in an altercation in the parking lot and he received a severe blow to the head. We have developed a person of interest and we’ve made contact with him to question him about the incident. No arrests have yet been made in the case. We don’t know if this is the real deal or not but we will put it out there for others to determine. Jewell reportedly ‘tweeted’ a few entries just prior to being murdered. Jewell was taken to a hospital where he later died. Jewell, known as A.J., appeared regularly on the hit reality show, often clashing with Burruss's mother, who disapproved of her daughter's relationship.
