Rancho Palos Verdes. More than 1,000 residents have been evacuated from their homes. The fire broke out shortly after 8:00 p.m. Thursday and is burning near Ocean Trails Drive and Palos Verdes Drive, near the Trump National Golf Club, according to Captain Mike Brown of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Evacuation orders have been issued for the streets of Portuguese Bend, Amber Sky, and Crest Road in Rancho Palos Verdes, Captain Sam Padilla of the Los Angeles County Fire Department told KTLA. According to Padilla, five water-dropping helicopters are working to put out the flames. Six structures were spotted burning in the fire, though fire officials have not released an official count. Brown told KTLA some the damaged structures were outbuildings like garages and sheds. At least three homes were damaged, he added. Crews planned to assess the damage and have an official report later in the day, he said.
Several homes in the area of Cintring and Spur Lanes are threatened and are in the direct path of the fire, according to officials. Wind conditions in the area are said to be light, and blowing from the south. The area is said to be very dry. A command center, set up to provide information on the blaze to the media at the Trump National Golf Course, was forced to move due to the fast-moving flames. At least 100 acres have been consumed by the fire, Los Angeles County Fire Officials said. As of Friday morning, the fire was holding at 100 acres, according to Brown. About 2,000 to 3.000 residents have been evacuated, including 1,500 who were placed under mandatory evacuation orders, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Most of the hundreds of homes affected are in the central area of the Rolling Hills Estates. An evacuation center has been set up at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School at Hawthorne and Silver Spur.
Animals evacuated by the flames may be brought to Howlett Park at 25852 Hawthorne Boulevard. The Terrenea Resort, a luxury hotel a couple miles from the fire, also opened its door to locals who had to evacuate.
