Phil Spector

Phil Spector is expected to begin deliberations after hearing closing arguments from the prosecution and defense. The music producer, 69, is charged with second-degree murder stemming from the shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson at his home in 2003. His first trial ended in 2007 with a deadlocked jury. On Tuesday, Spector's attorney, Doron Weinberg, told the jury Clarkson killed herself, and presented 14 points of forensic evidence as proof, reports the Associated Press. The day before a prosecutor told the jury Spector was a "demonic maniac."
Everyone is wondering: "Did Phil Spector really kill Lana Clarkson?" Not according to the music producer’s attorney, who on Tuesday argued that forensic evidence proves that B-list Hollywood actress Clarkson killed herself at Spector’s Los Angeles mansion in 2003. Spector, 69, has been charged with murdering Clarkson just hours after they met, and the resulting trial was full of downright weirdness. A jury in 2007 couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict on his guilt, so a new trial was called.
But prosecutors are painting the legendary producer — who has worked with music legends like The Beatles and Cher — as a "demonic maniac" who is "very dangerous" around women, particularly when he drinks. "This case is about a man who has had a history of playing Russian roulette with the lives of women," Deputy District Attorney Truc Do told the jury. "Five women got the empty chamber. Lana got the sixth bullet. "

Lana Clarkson

Clarkson was shot to death Feb. 3, 2003 in the home of music producer Phil Spector in Alhambra, California near Los Angeles. Closing arguments begin March 23, 2009 in Los Angeles, in the retrial of record producer Phil Spector, who is charged with murder in the February 2003 shooting death of Clarkson at his home.
Forensic evidence in music producer Phil Spector's murder retrial proves he is not guilty of the shooting death of a Hollywood actress six years ago, his lawyer told the jury on Tuesday. Making his closing arguments after a five-month long retrial, defense attorney Doron Weinberg said the dead woman, Lana Clarkson, shot herself in her mouth and there were no traces of Spector's DNA anywhere on the gun.
"The forensic evidence shows that Phillip Spector is innocent," he said, listing 14 pieces of scientific evidence used by the defense in the trial. Spector's lawyers have argued that Clarkson was depressed over her faltering career as a B-movie actress. Spector's first trial ended in September 2007 when the jury deadlocked 10-2 in favor of convicting him. California law requires a unanimous verdict to convict or acquit, resulting in the new trial.
