Insurance Institute for Road Safety has released its list of safest cars in 2010. Among the winners was the first award to the representatives of Ford, Subaru and Volkswagen. "Soul being honored with a 'Top Safety Pick' for a second time solidifies it as a top contender in its segment as a vehicle that offers consumers the entire package."

Guests of the Institute on the basis of the results from the front, side and rear impact crash tests, and for the first time, a good job testing the strength of the roof rollover protection are also needed to win. Each vehicle's overall score is based on a variety of measures specific to each angle of impact and the overall impact of crash test dummies inside the vehicle at the time of collision. All vehicles must have electronic stability control available to be acceptable.
